Access & Security

Keys & Remotes
Property managers and landlords are responsible for administering your keys, fobs and remotes – The Knight and Melbourne Building Management will only act on the instruction of the appropriate apartment authority.

Please contact your property administrator for additional or replacement keys, fobs or remotes.

You will require the following to traverse the building and access services available to your apartment:

  • Apartment keys
  • Letterbox keys
  • Security swipe card entry lobbies
  • Storage room door keys (where applicable)
  • Garage door remotes security swipe card (where applicable)

Access to the Nicholson
The resident’s swipe card will open the following doors:

  • Access in the lift to their apartment level and, if applicable, to the level that their storage cage is located
  • Main entry on Nicholson Street
  • Common green on level 2.

The main pedestrian entrance of The Nicholson is via Nicholson Street. Residents will be required to swipe their card to open the main lobby doors. You will also require this card to operate the lift.

As a security measure, apartment owners are allowed to access their floors only. To allow visitors to access the lifts, please refer to the intercom section below.

Access to the levels
The resident must use their swipe card to access their level via the lift. Simply swipe your card in front of the reader within the lift and press their level button.

Letterboxes
A black tagged key opens a resident’s specific letterbox within either the North or South lobbies.

Intercom
Guests will need to call residents via the intercom to gain access to an apartment. Visitors need to enter the apartment number and press the call symbol.

The lift security will be disengaged for a short period of time so the visitor can gain access by pressing the button to the resident’s level.

If the visitor takes too long to make it to the lift they will have to call the resident on the intercom again at the main lobby.

Security
For the safety of residents, The Nicholson is equipped with closed-circuit television cameras which provide 24 hour security monitoring of the building.

Should you require any further information regarding this security, please contact Melbourne Building Management or The Knight.

Bin rooms
North and South bin rooms are available to residents and comprise of general waste, recycling and clothing donation bins.

Please note: household waste only, no hard rubbish.

Any resident identified dumping any rubbish in common-areas will incur all management and disposal fees.

Apartment hatches
Apartments are fitted with ventilation hatches. These hatches are to help facilitate airflow within the apartment for the comfort of residents.

Unfortunately cooking smoke within the apartment can trigger fire alarms. Do not use the ventilation hatch as a means to evacuate smoke should you trigger your apartment smoke alarm. Please ensure that all ventilation hatches are closed while and immediately after cooking.

Any fire brigade call-out fees from false alarms will be the responsibility of the tenant, property manager and/or landlord.
